Cheng attended the DAMOP executive meeting on 5/28 and gave an invited talk on coherent inflationary dynamics on 5/29. Logan gave an APS DAMOP thesis prize talk on 5/29, Lei gave a contributed talk on Bose Fireworks 2.0 on 5/30, Brian gave a contributed talk on mediated interactions on 5/31. We also have 3 posters from Cs, LiCs and QMS labs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

05/23~05/28/2018: Invited by Cheng, Prof. Rudolf Grimm visited our group and gave a physics colloquium talk. Rudi was Cheng's postdoc advisor. We had a group dinner with Rudi on 5/25 night in Pizza Capri and was attended by Jonathan, Lei, Misha, Kevin, Fankie, Cheng, Rudi, Brian, Zhendong, Leone, Alicia, Marianne and Logan. The stuffed pizza did not show up. On 5/26 and 5/27, Rudi and Cheng joined an architecture tour, visited the art institute, John Hancock building, Chicago river in downtown, promontory point in Hyde Park and Chinatown.

03/05/2018: We submitted a new paper "Complex correlations in high harmonic generation of matter-wave jets revealed by pattern recognition" to arXiv. See here. This paper describes a new observataion of high harmonic generation of strongly driven Bose condensate. We find a unique hidden pattern of correlations revealed by pattern recognition.
03/02/2018: We had open house today with >60 students visiting us. We offer discussion with the students, lab tours and poster sessions. We hope there wil be new students joining our research soon.

03/01/2018: We initiated a new exchange program with Jean Dalibard's group at College de France, Paris. The program is funded by the France-Chicago Center through the FACCTS program.
02/26/2018: Dr. Miguel Arratiafrom UCBerkeley visited us. He and Cheng together gave an EFI talk on the connection between Bose fireworks in our group and jet formation in heavy ion colliions.

02/17/2018 Chinese new year dinner party: Zhendong, our licended cook, prepared a banquet for the whole group of 12 people in Cheng's home. The party was attended by Geyue, Misha, his girlfriend, Cheng, Joey, Kevin, Jonathan, Lei, his girlfriend, Frankie, Conner, Zhendong.
02/13/2018: Yuqing finished his 6-month research in our group and contributed much to various eletronics and optics project. He will return to Shanxi Univeristy and work on Bose-Einstein condensation of Cs atoms.

02/01-02/03/2018 Dr. Monika Aidelsburger visited us and talked about her work on Floquet engineering with ultracold atoms in optical lattices.
01/30/2018: We submitted a paper "Observation of interaction-induced gauge fields in a Bose-Einstein condensate based on micromotion control in a shaken two-dimensional lattice". See here. This paper describes a new idea and demonstration of BEC with a synthetic gauge field that is induced by atomic interactions.

01/15-01/16/2018: Junru Li from MIT visited us and gave a talk in our group meeting. He demonstrated supersolid based on atoms in modulated optical lattices.
